Genesis 6-9
When God asked Noah to build an ark, it had to be a pretty odd request. First of all, it wasn’t even raining yet. Second, God told Noah to bring every kind of animal onto the ark. Why bring all the animals and not just Noah’s family?
What Noah didn’t know was that God was ready to send out His punishment for the sin that had spread across the whole Earth. Everything had been infected by sin, and therefore everything would be destroyed. Everything except Noah, his family, and the animals inside the Ark. God would rescue them and use them to repopulate the earth.
Because they were inside the ark, they were saved from the flood. God showed His overwhelming love and kindness by giving them this way to be saved from the punishment of sin. God has shown us the same overwhelming love by sending Jesus to save us from our sin.
Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” We can escape God’s judgment against sin only through faith in Jesus Christ. Like Noah and his family found safety inside the ark, we find our hope and salvation in Jesus!
God rescued Noah and his family from the flood. The story of Noah points to an even greater rescue. God’s Son, Jesus came to take the punishment for our sin. By trusting in Him, we are saved from the power of sin and death.

Family Activities
For Fun
Make an origami boat or a boat from other craft supplies. Test the boat’s ability to float in a pond or your bathtub. Review the story of Noah. Help kids understand why God punishes sin and how He has lovingly made a way—like the ark for Noah—through Jesus for us to be saved.
To Serve
Volunteer to help at your local animal shelter. Feed animals, clean cages, or take the animals for walks. Talk about everything Noah and his family would have experienced on the ark. God used the ark to rescue Noah’s family and the animals from the flood. There is an even greater rescue through Jesus!
