FAMILY RESOURCES

Lent is the season of 40 days before Easter Sunday. There is a beauty in taking an extended time as a family to anticipate the celebration of Easter and fix your focus on Jesus. There is no right way to walk through Lent.

These resources are meant to be an inspiration for your family as you continue to seek God and His leading for your family.

  • A simple and approachable way to observe Lent as a family might be to include a short prayer before dinner or bedtime as a family. This is a resource that has prayer prompts for each day of Lent.

  • Consider spending 10 minutes a day talking about Jesus as a family and how He impacts your lives each day. Included in this printable are questions that will help you focus on Jesus and talk about things that matter to you as you live your life as his friend. Ideas for how this might look are included.

  • Don’t save the celebration of Easter for just one day!

In the weeks leading up to Easter, we encourage you to take moments with your family, each day, to walk through Jesus’ perfect life, His mazing miracles, and His selfless journey to the cross.

    Anticipating Easter printable

  • From Palm Sunday to Easter, we observe Holy Week and the events leading up to Jesus’ death and resurrection. These daily devotionals are aimed for older kids and their families - they could be used during Holy Week or spread out through Lent.

  • Looking for a fun way to celebrate Easter with your neighbors? Consider ‘egging’ them! Print out this sign and get ready to hide 12 eggs in your neighbor's yard - leaving 1 empty to remind them of the empty tomb Jesus left behind!

Sunday Recap

The Recap is a summary of what we learned Sunday morning at Westgate Kids with additional ideas and suggestions for continuing the conversation at home. God commanded His people to make sure their children learned His commandments. He told them to talk about them when they were home, when they walked along the road, and when they get up each day. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) May you trust God's leading as you parent your child and help them know, love, and trust God.

3.30.2025 | Joshua’s Farewell

Joshua reminded the people that God saved them from Egypt and gave them the Promised Land. He told them to worship God alone. Jesus is worthy of all worship because He saves those who trust in Him from sin and gives them eternal life.

3.23.2025 | Taking the Land

God fought for Israel, and all their enemies were defeated. Jesus lived a sinless life and defeated our enemies––sin and death––when He died on the cross. If we believe in Him, we receive His righteousness.

Additional Resources

It is our desire to come alongside families and help parents lead their families in following Jesus. We have curated various resources that we have found meaningful and helpful. Every family and child is unique and we encourage you to listen to the Holy Spirit as He leads your family.

As you find additional resources - we’d love to hear of them!

  • At Westgate Kids, we use the NIrV Bible translation, but kids are welcome to use any version they have. We would be happy to provide a Bible for your child - just let us know!

There are also great children’s Bibles if you are looking for a simple way to read God’s Word with your family.

  • Devotionals are a great way to spend time as a family or parent/child in meaningful ways - fixing our thoughts on God, following Jesus, and listening to the Spirit. There are SO many out there - here are a few of our favorites!

    • Are your kids fascinated by science and the world around them? Indescribable Kids by Louie Giglio are daily devotionals that show attributes of God through His creation and the world around us.

  • Communion is a gift from Jesus - a time to remember who He is, what He did for us, and what He promises to do.

At Westgate, we serve a Believer’s Communion and let families decide when their children are ready to participate in Communion.

Each year we offer a Passover to Communion event on the Wednesday of Holy Week as a time to explain and practice Communion for older elementary kids.

Our team has developed a Kids Communion booklet to help families walk through Communion together.
Printed copies are available at the Westgate Front Desk.

  • Baptism is a very special act of obedience and a testimony (telling others) that you have decided to follow Jesus Christ.

There is no age limit or number of years of believing in Jesus that should prevent someone from being baptized.

Our team has developed a Kid’s Baptism Guide to help kids learn more about baptism with their families.
Printed copies are available at the Westgate Front Desk.

If you or your child would like to be a part of the next baptismal service, please contact Dee Sandberg.

  • Dedicating your child to the Lord is an opportunity to recognize that all gifts come from the Father above - and we are created by Him and for Him. Child Dedication is a voluntary act signifying the commitment of the parent(s) to do their best to raise their child to be a follower of Christ.

Our team has developed a Child Dedication Info & Devotional booklet to help parents walk through what it means to dedicate their child.
Printed copies are available in the Westgate nursery.

There are Child Dedication services throughout the year. Please contact our Westgate Kids team to learn more.

  • God has created each of us - and our kids - with unique skills, wiring, abilities, and temperaments. He has gifted each of us with feelings and emotions; valuable signals about what it going on in deeper within us.

We hope these resources will be a blessing - and a launch point for you as parents - as you navigate how best to love and support your children (and yourselves).

  • Stories are a meaningful way to teach truth to our children. Here are some of our favorites.

  • Great options for road trips and times at home. Many include scripture set to song - truth that will stay with your kids throughout their lives! Be sure to check out Right Now Media and various streaming platforms.
